Guest Experiences

It is a rare occasion that you stay somewhere where the hotel owners go above and beyond, where they truly exceed expectations and provide a 'wow' experience that sees you talking about your experience in just about every conversation that you have from friends, to work, to the supermarket checkout. Wayne and Karen are simply exceptional hosts and Marivale Manor is an absolutely incredible place to stay. Thank you Wayne and Karen.

We booked on the recommendation of friends. Booking while traveling was effortless and the welcome on arrival was as you would wish for. Friendly, professional and hassle free. The rooms are spotless and location perfect. Wayne, Karen (& Raffles) will make you feel relaxed and at home. We highly recommend a visit.
My husband and i stayed here one night on a business trip to Christchurch. We were booked into the Peacock Suite which is in the main manor house. On arrival you are greeted with perfectly manicured gardens and hedges and lawns. Very friendly and warm smiles from the owners Karen and Wayne. The interior design has a fantastic mix of history with a modern touch in the 132 yr old Manor. Our room was above our expectations it had a lounge kitchenette area with a separate bedroom. Again the interior design was stunning with fresh flowers, candles and chocolates. The bed was very comfortable and the linen soft and inviting. The bathroom was spotlessly clean as was the rest of our room, house and grounds. The shower pressure was fantastic for a house of this age. Our room was very quiet with no noise from the road or other guests. What impressed me the most was the feel of it. You feel welcome and extra thought has gone into the little details. My only issue was our stay was only one night. The price is extremely reasonable for this 5 star gem. I could not fault it and will not hesitate to book in next trip. After the devastation that hit Christchurch with the Earthquakes it is refreshing to see progress with the rebuilding and improving charm that Christchurch has to offer tourists.
Christchurch is our home town so we visit as often as possible and at least once a year. We always stay at Merivale Manor, our home away from home.

It's location is the perfect base for daily visits out to friends and family all over the city. Merivale Mall is walking distance for almost everything you need, from food supplies, designer fashion & shoes, cafe coffee, alfresco all day dining ... well, all the amenities really.

Our most recent visit (Dec14/Jan15) was our first under the management of Wayne & Karen. We soon realised that a good thing can get even better with happy, engaging, fun loving hosts. From an enthusiastic wave as we return from a bike ride on The Manor's own Amsterdam style cruiser bicycles, to a hilarious lesson in the use of the (very shiny) coffee machine, to a cheery cool drink on the balcony.

By now, I think we have stayed in every room they have at Merivale Manor. They are all exquisitely decorated, immaculate in presentation, relaxing, private, and quiet. The decor of the whole establishment is elegant, charming, and utterly uplifting.

The staff are almost as gorgeous as the hosts. The ladies cleaning the rooms were always smiling, happy, thorough and discreet, often going out of their way to please.

And, the 4 paws rating? That goes to Raffles, the hosts' darling little schnauzer who delighted us daily with his pretty little face. I'd like to adopt Raffles. Actually, I'd like to adopt Wayne & Karen as well!

There's no need to look elsewhere. Just book it. Merivale Manor is our home away from home, except that its perfect in every way, and I hope it will become yours also.

The glamour of travel is long gone for the frequent business traveller. Hence I was thrilled to discover Merivale Manor and have stayed frequently over the past 18 months. Merivale Manor is distinguished from other accommodation due to the high quality of home style comforts skilfully mixed with the professional hospitality from hosts Wayne and Karen. I now recommend this location for all my colleagues whenever we visit our Christchurch office and clients. I’ll be back again next trip!

We really enjoyed staying at your lovely Merivale Manor when we were in Christchurch last week. Accommodation can make or break a holiday and the Manor was beyond our expectations. Room 215 on our first night was exceptional but we also loved our twin room 211, it was so quiet and cosy. We were very impressed with the extras such as breakfast, the book exchange and the laundry. We have travelled a lot in the UK and Europe but have both now voted the Manor as out favourite place to stay. We had a great few days visiting the Garden Show and exploring Christchurch and even missing the bus to Akaroa turned into an adventure. We met some lovely people and ate a bit too well, could not fault any meal we had there.

Sorry that this has taken a while, but I just wanted to thank you both for the outstanding service, assistance and quality of the stay while I was in Christchurch to visit my folks last month. It made the wind-down from the UK flight bearable, and when I was back to normal, it felt positively home-like. Next visit will be in a couple of years away, but the first booking will be at 'The Manor'. Have a great year and thanks for the top class service.
